Sprite Labels Enhances Flexibility and Customer Alignment Through Strategic Investment with Inkjet Solutions

Client: Sprite Labels- International supplier of specialist Labels, high quality print, meeting difficult applications
Industry: Custom Labels & Tags Manufacturing, specialist labelling and tag manufacturer.
Location: Nottingham, UK
Technology Partner: Inkjet Solutions
Solution Implemented: i-JET600 Label Inkjet System including varied barcodes
Project Goal: Enhance variable data printing capabilities, increase equipment flexibility, and reinforce long-term customer relationships.

Background

Sprite Labels, a seasoned custom label manufacturer with over 40 years of experience, has consistently prioritized aligning its services with evolving customer needs. Their focus on long-term relationships over transactional dealings has set them apart in a competitive industry. As demands for variable data printing – such as barcoding and marking – have increased, Sprite Labels saw an opportunity to invest in technology that not only improved capabilities but also preserved existing equipment, whilst providing scope for new applications.

Challenge

As specialist label applications expanded into more industrial uses, such as tyre labelling mandatory chemical identification, Sprite Labels required a printing solution that could:

  • Handle complex, non-standard substrates.
  • Integrate seamlessly with existing press and finishing equipment.
  • Offer high-resolution, flexible output for variable data.
  • Be supported by a trusted and responsive technology partner and maintain production output.

Solution

Sprite Labels turned to Inkjet Solutions, continuing a trusted partnership that had already proven successful on a previous installation. The chosen system, the i-JET600 Label, is built around Kyocera printhead technology and retrofitted directly onto Sprite Labels’ BGM rewind slitter with die-cutting capabilities.

Key Features of the i-JET600 Label:

  • Monochrome print widths: 108mm to 556mm
  • CMYK print widths: up to 332mm
  • 600 x 600 dpi resolution, with 3 grey levels
  • Print speeds up to 150 mpm
  • Seamless integration with both new and existing OEM systems

Implementation & Collaboration

The implementation wasn’t without challenges, but thanks to John Richardson, Director at Inkjet Solutions—who brought a unique blend of hands-on printing experience and engineering expertise—issues were resolved quickly and effectively.

“Even when we encountered implementation challenges, John’s experience meant he provided a realistic solution. We’ve had no issues since – just solid, commercial success.”
Tony Katsouris, Director, Sprite Labels

The system’s versatility allowed Sprite Labels to expand its services, particularly in coding and marking, while preserving the utility of existing machines.

Impact

  • Improved Customer Alignment: The new system has given Sprite Labels to meet precise customer requirements for variable data printing.
  • Increased Flexibility: The retrofitted system has given older equipment a new lease of life, reducing the need for full costly replacements.
  • Trusted Partnership: Fast, remote support from Inkjet Solutions ensures minimal downtime and high productivity, when needed rapid response onsite operator training.
  • Stronger Client Relationships: The investment has enabled Sprite Labels to advise customers more effectively, further enhancing trust and collaboration.

“We don’t want world dominance, but we’re holding our own. It’s all built on trust—with our clients and with suppliers like John.”
Tony Katsouris

Looking Ahead

Both Sprite Labels and Inkjet Solutions are committed to supporting the wider printing and labelling community. With an open-door policy for demonstrations and testing, Sprite Labels is helping foster innovation and collaboration across the labelling and packaging industries.

“We’re happy to showcase what we’ve implemented. There’s a community out there, and we all have something to offer.”
Tony Katsouris

Conclusion

The partnership between Sprite Labels and Inkjet Solutions illustrates how long-term relationships, trust, and customer-centric investments drive real business value. The successful deployment of the i-JET600 Label system has not only improved operations at Sprite Labels, but reinforced their commitment to being a knowledgeable, flexible, and trusted supplier in a fast-changing industry.
